Kev Carmody, Warumpi Band and more play Carnivale Live on Tour (1993)

Meatloaf. Whitney Houston. Ugly Kid Joe. In 1993, we tended to look to America for our musical heroes. Carnivale Live On Tour showed us that we only had to look as far as our own backyards – and into our own complex history.

Carnivale packed some of Australia’s finest and best-loved Blak musicians – Kev Carmody, Neil Murray, Warumpi Band, Tiddas, Roger Knox and Euraba Band among them – onto buses for a state-wide jaunt.

For many, it was a meeting of old friends; for others a rare opportunity to play on the same bill. For Murray – who left the Warrumpi Band band in 1987 to form The Rainmakers – it was also a reunion. And for the great Kev Carmody, one of the most respected singer-songwriters in Australia, it was a victory lap.
